The New Foal.


It is important for the mare to bond with her newborn foal. When the foal is born the mare will lick the foal to get the blood circulation going. A mare will also sniff and whinny at the foal to learn eachothers scent and voices.

A mare in foal


This is what a mare looks when she is heavely 'in foal'.

A mares gestation period is about 11 months. But looking after the mare can be a bit tricky.

The signs of when the mare is going to give birth are:

she may look in discomfort so she might be kicking at her stomach or trieng to lie down or to get up.
